Quartz Countertops Quartz countertops are some of the most durable countertops available. The natural hardness of quartz on Moh’s hardness scale is a 7, even more durable than granite. Quartz materials resist damage from heat, freezing and corrosion. Quartz surfaces are non-porous, making them resistant to staining and bacterial growth. Quartz is also easy to clean with the usual household products, and does not require an annual sealing to maintain its beauty.  Quartz comes in a full range of colors, including white, opaque, smoky yellow, rose, violet, yellow, and brown

Granite and Quartzite Granite countertops are a favorite with both designers and home buyers, and is the standard to which other countertop materials are compared. Nature spends over a million years making granite, which gives it not only a natural stone beauty but the durability to match. Pots and pans placed directly from a hot stove to a granite surface will not cause any damage. Each piece of granite is uniquely different from all others, with rich textures, tones, and a full range of colors hues and shadings. Pure quartzite comes in snowy white or gray color, or more rarely is tinted with other light colors by other minerals. The parent stone for quartzite is a quartz-rich sandstone. The quartz grains in the sandstone are fused together deep underground, forming an extremely hard and weather-resistant stone. Unlike sandstone, quartzite breaks through, not around, the quartz grains, producing a smooth surface instead of a rough and granular one.

Travertine Travertine is similar to limestone but formed near hot springs. Contrary to what some believe, Travertine is denser than most marbles and compact limestone and is not particularly porous. If polished, it will lose its finish within a few months and become "honed" on its own.
